MOM's Hubbard Cupboard Food Pantry Moves
Press Release - June 21, 2003
On June 21, "MOM's Hubbard Cupboard Food Pantry" moves out of St. Luke's Lutheran Church into Middleton Industrial Park-two miles from the downtown area, at 8710 Montclair Drive. St. Luke's is the mother church that gave birth to Middleton Outreach Ministry in 1980 and has housed the affiliated pantry ever since. Affectionately known as "MOM," Middleton Outreach Ministry is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit social service agency and consortium of 12 churches whose food pantry serves up 250 families every month.
The pantry has been housed in an educational wing of the church to be demolished later this summer as part of a larger building expansion program that will yield additional classroom space for the church youth.
To make it worth the extra effort to get out to the Middleton Business Park and to consolidate its client services on one site, Middleton Outreach Ministry is also relocating its Client Clothing Closet from an overcrowded office building on Hubbard Avenue, to this Distribution Center. Now, all food, clothing and furniture will be sorted, stored and redistributed FREE to clients, on a self-service basis, from this one location. MOM Staff are currently working on ways to make sure that no client is unable to reach their services.
An Eagle Scout candidate, Matt Blakeslee, is heading up a work crew of scouts and other volunteers who will physically relocate all shelving units and commodities on Saturday, June 21. Another volunteer, Chris Van Haren, is retraining volunteers all week long in preparation for the move.
Middleton Outreach Ministry welcomes any new volunteers who would like to serve food or clothing to client families from the Distribution Center.
