Countdown to MOM's 25th Anniversary Celebration
Count your blessings one by one, and day by day, up until June 12
Middleton Times Tribune - May, 2005
by Dietrich Gruen, Middleton Outreach Ministry
This 25-day calendar was created by MOM volunteer Connie Ott and staff Ellen Carlson for three reasons: (1) to give you and your family a way to reflect on the blessings you’ve received; (2) raise awareness of those in need; and (3) to tell how Middleton Outreach Ministry addresses those needs. Please adapt this calendar to suit your family by deciding what size coins you would like to use. If you are not able to use coins, say a prayer for each coin instead. To further explain a particular MOM program, visit our 25th Anniversary page.
Collect the money in a small container (coin boxes are available at the MOM office and at any of the 12 MOM churches) and offer your coins in our joint worship service 4pm, Sunday, June 12 at St. Luke’s. You may also bring your donations to the MOM office. Thank you for participating and giving to your neighbors in need.
May 19 Jesus says in Matthew 25 that whatever you do for those in need you are doing for Him. Add a coin for each time today that you helped someone.

May 23 Many people have no place to live. Add a coin for the home that your family lives in.
May 24 MOM’s symbol, two hands holding on together, represents the hand of someone in need connected with the hand of someone providing help. Add a coin for the number of hands in your family.
May 25 One of every six kids in America lives in poverty. Add a coin in for every six kids in your class at school or every 6 people in your workplace.
May 26 MOM provides a Christmas dinner for the community each Dec. 25th. Add a coin for each person at the table where your family eats Christmas dinner.
May 27 In some families, a mom or dad will not eat, so that their child will have enough food. MOM’s Food Pantry helps provide food, so that no one has to go hungry. Add a coin in thankfulness for your mom and dad, and for MOM.
May 28 MOM has been serving its neighbors in need for 25 years. Add a coin for each year your family has lived in your neighborhood.
May 29 By September 2003, 2.1 million American jobless workers—nearly a quarter of the total unemployed population—had been out of work six months or more, the highest level in 20 years. Add a coin for each month this year you or your parents have been able to work.

June 8 More than 90% of MOM clients live below the federal poverty level. Not until a family reaches twice the federal poverty level (twice for a family of four = $37,700) can parents provide their children with basic necessities. Add a coin for each meal you ate today.
June 9 MOM provides jackets for families unable to purchase them. Add a coin for every jacket in your family’s closet.
June 10 MOM employs 8 people to serve our community. Add a coin for each in thanksgiving for their work.
June 11 Today you may have participated in the “Walk-a-Mile-in-Their-Shoes” walkathon for MOM. Add a coin for every mile your family walked. If you didn’t participate, add a coin for every place your family volunteers.
June 12 MOM hopes to serve the community for another 25 years to come—at least! Add a piece of paper money for the next 25 of years of MOM, that MOM might be a “legacy of caring.”
This month we begin the final countdown to the actual 25th anniversary events coming June 6-12. For a preview of our weeklong birthday party, visit our 25th Anniversary Page.
